I’ve heard about HCKSYD in the past - has the conference been run before?
Short answer: No.
HCKSYD was planned to be held for the first time back in 2020 - well, we know how that went for events. We tried getting it back again in 2021 but then we had new lockdowns announced for Sydney (and most of Australia) so we had to call it off again. We did run an online CTF for beginners that year though. This year is the first time the conference will be run in-person.
Where will the conference be located?
The conference will be held in Sydney, Australia. With lockdown restrictions finally over, there are a lot of events happening again which means venue availability is limited. We’re working hard to secure a great venue in, or close to the CBD. Stay tuned for an announcement on the website and social media very soon.
When will the conference be scheduled?
The conference in scheduled to be run over 2 days in November 2022 (excluding training days). The dates are dependent on the venue and will be published on the website and social media.
What’s the difference between HCKSYD and BSides Sydney?
HCKSYD and BSides Sydney are two different conferences.
BSides Sydney is a not for profit, community-oriented conference focused on all aspects of information security with an emphasis on appealing to student and those new to the industry.
BSides Sydney conference is facilitated by Bitwise Security. Bitwise Security has no financial interest.
The conference organisers' vision for 2022 is that the conferences are scheduled such that BSides runs shortly after HCKSYD (traditionally BSides was not run as a stand-alone event, hence the name). This proposal has been shared with the BSides organisation (USA) who have endorsed the idea.
Will there be food included?
In an effort to keep the ticket prices reasonable, we have decided to not provided catered meals at the HACKSYD conference. There will be food options available at the venue with plenty of food outlets a short walking distance. We will publish a list of nearby locations where you can grab tea, coffee, snacks, and lunch during the session breaks.
